Why choose City College Brighton and Hove?

Some quick facts about our history, achievements and capability

Why choose City College Brighton and Hove?

For over 100 years, City College Brighton and Hove has ensured that the very best in further education is available in Brighton. In the last decade, the College has undergone an £8.2 million refurbishment programme providing a new Library Resource Centre, Refectory and Training Restaurant in the centre of the city. The College has recently launched its Hair & Beauty Training Salons, City Revival, offering an excellent value service to local customers while City Jobs, the College’s free employment service offering assistance with recruitment in Sussex, is helping students and local residents to find jobs. Aside from our central campus on Pelham Street in the heart of Brighton’s North Laine, there is the City College East campus on Wilson Avenue which hosts our Visual and Performing Arts programme as well as Journalism, Music Technology, Building Trades and, from September 2011, Motor Vehicle. Our Adult Education programme is run at various sites across Brighton and Hove and we train plumbers at our Preston Road site.

City College has over 1,000 full-time and part-time staff – this makes us one of the top ten employers in the city. Staff includes lecturers, business/student support staff, caretakers, administrators and management. Every year, 2,000 full-time, 7,000 part time, almost 400 Higher Education and 400 14-16 year old students as well as many international and European students choose City College as their place of further and higher education training. An important part of our work is delivering Foundation Degrees in collaboration with the University of Brighton. In addition, the College provides training to over 2,000 businesses via its ‘City Business Skills’ department which focuses on employer training needs. Offering over 700 courses from basic level right through to business and postgraduate training, City College is working with its partners to develop the workforce of the future.

City College was awarded Bronze Investor in People (IIP) recognition in 2010. This recognises activities above the basic standard, looking into how the College has continued to develop in relation to Strategic Planning, Learning and Development and Core Value activities. Only 4% of employers in the South East have achieved this prestigious status.
