Boxing Academy in Brighton and Hove

Improve your Boxing Skills in Brighton and Hove

City College Boxing Academy - AASE – The Home of Champions!

Are you passionate about boxing but also want to make sure that you don’t neglect your education and future career prospects? Then City College’s Boxing Academy could be perfect for you!

The City College Boxing Academy (CCBA) is an exciting one or two year programme designed to give talented and motivated young boxers the opportunity to develop their skills, fitness and knowledge while continuing in full-time education. The Academy has made a significant investment in facilities including a brand new 18 foot ring, a wide range of cardiovascular machines and resistance machines for the boxers to concentrate on strength and conditioning. There’s a flexibility/core room and an adjoining conference room, aiding tutors in analysing the boxing-specific theory behind the fitness training. Boxing is now an area where young athletes can not only continue to develop their skills, but gain academic qualifications. In some cases, young boxers who might have previously been disengaged with education are continuing their studies while also being focussed on their boxing training.

City College’s Boxing Academy is led by coach Adam Haniver who studied Sports Science at the University of Brighton and who also coaches the University of Brighton Boxing Team along with Hailsham ABC in Sussex. The Academy, founded in 2010, has got off to a flying start, producing the current ABA Junior Champion, Archie Hutchins, who has been on the College’s Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) since the scheme began and has now proved himself to be the best boxer in his age group in Britain.

“Archie’s success has been a massive boost for the profile of the academy but aside from that, boxing generally is really on the up in the south, and I believe that the marrying in of education with the sport has played a big part in this rise”, says Adam. “Boxing is branching out and becoming accessible to everyone with female boxing in particular gaining in popularity. It's good to see that there’s now a structure to leave a real boxing legacy in the lives of many young people, who then cater for the generations coming through.”
