A unique and excellent journalism opportunity

Journalism students at City College are embarking on a unique project thought to be a first in the media world.

Normally on NCTJ courses, reporters are given patches and write stories for an imaginary paper. Here at City College that is very different.

We have teamed up with top newspaper publisher Johnston Press to produce a new weekly paper.  The first edition will be published at the end of October, and most of the content will be copy written by students.

News journalism course leader Peter Lindsey said, 'This is an amazing opportunity for our students created by this unique partnership between City College and Johnston Press.

'What other college can offer its students an opportunity to write for a weekly paper, and have work published?

'This is a real-life free weekly paper focusing on Brighton and Hove, but targeted at young people,

'Johnston Press has committed resources to this exciting project as well. It is great news for our students, and adds real added value to our course.'

Our journalists first find stories, write them, and then their colleagues actually copy edit them.

So by the time they are sent to the Johnston Press office in Eastbourne they are ready to go live into a proper paper, which will be distributed across Brighton.
