Performances at City College

Performances from the great actors and actresses of tomorrow

Fundamental to the courses are the performances of many different shows to the public. Some are working with existing scripts while others are devised by the students.

Upcoming shows

City College Brighton and Hove, BTEC National presents:

An Evening of Shakespeare

Selected scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Merchant of Venice

Reflecting our departments desire to be at the cutting edge of drama, these plays will be explored for their relevance to the modern day. In Merchant we will be exploring attitudes to anti-Semitism; in Dream we will be looking at what happens when modern people have the trappings of civilisation taken from them.

Drama Studio, City College East

City College Brighton and Hove, BTEC First presents:

Grimm Tales by Carol Ann Duffy

Reworking of classic tales by the poet laureate

After their hugely successful Christmas Cabaret, the BTEC First group perform this exciting, physical and lyrical adaptation of 3 of the Brother's Grimm's classic stories. Definitely not just for children!

End of Year shows:

City College Brighton and Hove, BTEC National Acting presents:

The Visit by Friedrich Dürrenmatt

This classic play studies the compromise of morality in modern capitalist society. This has been made even more relevant by the near collapse in the international banking system that led to the Credit Crunch.

The production will take the original text and infuse it with physical theatre and total theatre to create an explosive performance. Ideal for anyone studying Brecht, Artaud, Grotowski or Lecoq. Ideal for anyone who loves theatre.

City College Brighton and Hove, BTEC First Acting presents:

Brokenville by Phillip Ridley

In a world destroyed by an unnamed disaster, in the ruins of a house, clutching a burnt book and playing a music box for comfort, a child attempts to sleep. The music attracts others. The others can’t remember what happened or their names so call each other by what they have: Satchel, Bruise, Quiff, Glitter.

In this world they begin to tell the child..and each other…stories.

This is a redemptive piece of theatre that celebrates the power and joy of story telling.
