Sport Tutors

Sport is staffed by enthusiastic and experienced tutors

Luke Hampton - Head of Sport

The Sports Department is managed by Luke Hampton, an enthusiastic and experienced teacher. Luke is a graduate of Sports Science from Loughborough University, and works part-time as a Coach Educator for the Football Association and the First-Team Masseur at Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club. Luke has excellent links with sports providers and organisations in the area, which will help graduates have every opportunity of finding employment in the sport and active leisure industry.

Samantha Stares - Sports Lecturer

Sam is a new member of the sports team at City College East; she holds a 2:1 degree in Sports Development and a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education from the University Of Portsmouth and has taught across a range of sporting programmes such as BTEC, A Level and Sport Leadership courses and is very passionate and dedicated to teaching. Her main sport is hockey where she currently plays in the National South Division One League for her current club. Alongside club commitments Sam has also represented South of England and Hampshire for a number of years throughout her playing career. Sam is also a qualified hockey coach and coaches throughout the England Hockey Performance Centres, and is also involved in the coaching of the College hockey team and is keen to encourage and develop participation and performance in sport throughout the student body. As well, as hockey Sam also has a keen interest in Netball and throughout the summer months plays for a local netball team.

Adam Haniver – A.A.S.E Boxing Coach

Adam is a  new member of the sports team at City College East, he heads up the Advanced Apprenticeships in Sporting Excellence scheme in boxing. Adam has a sports science degree from the University of Brighton and competed as an amateur boxer for 12 years. Adam is the head coach of the University of Brighton Boxing team and co-coach for Hailsham A.B.C, he has also initiated Boxing Clubs in several schools in the Sussex area and facilitated boxing camps working with the Royal Yachting Association's Olympic Programmes.

Adam says 'I very much look forward to developing the Boxing AASE scheme and working with local clubs to help develop the boxers enrolled on the course.'

Lloyd Hooper – Senior Sports Lecturer

Lloyd is a enthusiastic practitioner of high quality education and sport science. He holds degrees in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Birmingham and from Roehampton University, also having studied teaching at Brighton University. Lloyd has taught sport and physical education across a range of programmes for a number of years and is passionate about the development of sport participation and performance. He is involved in a number of sports as a coach and performer, including beach volleyball, cycling and football.

Findlay Macmillan - Rugby Coach

Findlay is a former Premiership Rugby Player who played for Bristol and represented Scotland at Under 18 and Students Level. He also represented  Scotland at Rugby League. Fin, is also the forwards coach at Brighton Blues Rugby Club.

Robbie Marr - Student Participation

Robbie is a graduate of St Marys University College, London where he studied a degree in Sports Science. A qualified and active Rugby coach Robbie has coached on behalf of Superleague club Harlequins Rugby League.

A keen Rugby League player Robbie has represented the Great Britain Student Pioneers who went on an inaugural tour to play games against the Latvian and Ukrainian national sides. Most recently Robbie was the match official for Student Rugby League GB Pioneers three test series against the Greek national side in Rhodes.

Robbie’s role will be to drive student participation in sport and strengthen community links.

Shelley Buxey

Shelley is a new recruit on the Sport Team at City Collge Brighton and Hove, she holds a BSc Sport Science degree from Brighton University and continues to be a passionate teacher of Sport Science. Shelley gained extensive experience of fitness instructing and personal training whilst at David Lloyd, Eastbourne where she trained with a range of clients for two years. Shelley continues to instruct many classes including Spin, body pump and circuits.

A Passion for working with people and teaching took Shelley into Further Education and she has now taught a variety of both theoretical and practical units within sport.

Shelley has a great enthusiam for netball, currently playing for Mid Sussex netball club, she has lots of experience in the sport and has previoulsy played for numerous county teams. With Shelleys enthusiam for netball she is keen to project this throughout City College Brighton and Hove to build a well established netball team.

Jude Macdonald

Jude is a new member of the department at CCB and is a combined Sport and Public Services Lecturer. Jude is a Coaching and Sports Development graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University where he was a successful member of the Men’s Football Club; receiving awards within the club throughout his three years, as well as being recognised by the University for achievements as Men’s 1st XI Captain and as a committee member in 2010. Jude went on to study teaching at The University of Bolton, whilst teaching Sport and Public Services BTEC courses at Bury College, Manchester.

Jude is a qualified Football and Handball Coach and will be helping out the College enrichment programme as much as possible this year.
