After being made redundant for the second time I decided to take control of my career and retrain to be a graphic designer. I have always been creative, but had never received any formal training focussing instead on management training.
First I completed the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Graphics course and then I went on to complete the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Interactive Media course.
Both of these courses have completely changed my life, not just by teaching me new skills but enabling me to work in an industry that I love. These courses have also given me the confidence to become a freelance designer, and I have been working for myself since completing the Graphic Design course.
I now work on a wide variety of projects for small to medium sized businesses including branding, websites and magazines.
Both the courses were well structured and well taught and I found that the more you put in, the more you get out! I have also made a great network of like-minded people from both courses, who act as both support and inspiration.

I decided to apply for the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Interactive Media (Web Design) led by Phil Jackson (Excellent experienced and talented tutor). After one year of hard work with Phil I developed my knowledge in graphic design for the web, colour theory, sound editing, flash animation and how to build modern websites.
Now I run my own business Jakbau Studio back in Poland. I do what I love- graphic design: leaflets, business cards, brochures, menus, large format printing, building professional websites and CMS's. I also undertake advertising photography for my posters or other prints. Thanks to the course I can prepare my work for various print solutions (offset, digital) or other media like the internet and TV. Jakbau Studio now has many happy clients including work for . a voting campaign with over 50,000 leaflets, as well as graphics for TV and band CD covers.

I worked in recruitment for a few years after graduating but knew this wasn’t the path I wanted to pursue! I joined the course in order to rapidly gain practical skills in web/digital design and to shift my career in this direction.
I was able to keep my job as the course only took place one afternoon per week, which was obviously great for financial reasons. I thought the content of the course was well organised and very engaging. We had the opportunity to work on all the main programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash) through lots of practical projects that we presented individually or as a team.
The end of the course focused on the ‘finding a job’ bit, which was very motivating and helpful as we learnt about preparing our portfolio, going freelance and pitching for assignments. During the course, I also met some great people from various backgrounds, which was very enriching.
I started applying for digital jobs as soon as I finished the course and was hired a few months later at a major Email Service Provider in London. I have now moved back to France where I work within the web team of a large retailer.

I had been working as freelance graphic designer for 9 years before I applied for the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Interactive Media course. On the course I gained lots of experience and built valuable contacts. Previously I lacked feedback for my work and was also lacking confidence about the professionalism in my work. The increasing demand for online skills also urged me to take on a course.
The course provided me with not only the practical skills I needed to succeed as an online designer, but more importantly I received lots of feedback and guidance from my tutor, which helped me gain confidence and motivation. The course required dedication, organization and self-discipline but was worth it as it helped me to develop my creativity, which proved to be a major benefit for me.
After the course and a few months of freelancing and participating in a few online projects, I felt like doing something new and challenge myself in a different environment, namely working as part of a team. I found this opportunity at a newly founded digital department of an advertising agency, full of experienced, enthusiastic people. As a web designer I'm responsible for creating interfaces for web, mobile, touch and social media.
Thinking back to those months I spent in Brighton with the amazing, creative and inspiring tutors and course-mates always puts a big grin on my face.

I started my BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Interactive Media after having worked on various UN projects and in various marcomms roles in the UK and abroad. I decided that I wanted to focus more on the creative and technical aspects of creative marketing and become an expert in this field.
I chose this course because it seemed to encompass all the multimedia functions I wanted to learn such as basic graphic design, animation and website production, whilst being affordable and having the ability to work part-time.
I have never looked back. The course was absolutely excellent, the quality of teaching was of an extremely high standard and the tasks I was given served to extend my skills and creativity outside of the classroom.
When I started the course I was a complete Photoshop/ Illustrator/ Dreamweaver/ Flash virgin (what’s a layer?). The course enables you to build a professional looking portfolio of work, which I took along confidently to my job interview.
I’m now the Design and Digital Manager for a medium sized Children’s Charity www.rainbowtrust.org.uk and have since played a championing role in driving the digital and creative capabilities of the charity. I hope to continue developing the design and digital department and to eventually develop my own business in the design and digital field. This course is well worth the investment and the more you put in, the more you get back. Go for it!”

I applied for the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Interactive Media course as I wanted to move from my IT based job into a more creative and exciting career as a web designer.
The course had the right balance between learning about design elements and the web technologies and software needed to produce a web site. There was a lot of information to take in, course work could be quite intense and needed plenty of commitment but it was worth the effort.
Getting to the end of the course and being able to build well designed, functional websites was a great achievement. Our tutor gave us invaluable advice on how to get started in the industry and by the time the course finished I had the confidence to get started on my new career path.
After I finished the course I worked part time for a small web company and built up my own web design business. I am now freelance full time and work on a variety of web projects from small local businesses to big budget projects for other web agencies.
