Course aims:
This interactive media course is a chance to focus on what brings an animated character to life.
You’ll develop characterisation and character performance skills for animation by experimenting with timing, exaggeration and dynamic acting for 2D animation.
During the course you will also be encouraged to use traditional hand drawn techniques for ‘line tests’ together with software-based digital methods. Finally there will be the chance to develop your own 2D animation character through a series of characterisation tasks and complete a finished sequence of 2D character animation.

Facilities for students:
Students will be based at our City College Main Campus where we have extensive and excellent facilities for practical and theory work. These include: state of the art Windows PC’s and Apple Macintosh’s with industry level software. Teaching and learning aids such as Smart Whiteboards, data projectors, personal City College email accounts, Virtual Learning Environment and personal online file storage space will compliment and aid student’s on the course.

Joe is a practicing animator and illustrator with five years of experience in teaching animation to a variety of ages and skill levels.
Assessment: Opportunities for supportive and informal verbal feedback from staff and students will be provided in each session.

This is a practical course generating potential material to contribute to a portfolio work which could be used for interview for media and art & design related FE courses.
The skills attained during this course could provide a stepping stone to further learning and experiences in the animation and short film industry.
