Course aims:
This digital media course is an excellent introduction into the uses and power of the program Adobe Illustrator
Illustrator is an industry standard design tool and can be used in a variety of ways within the context of design and illustration. Whether you’re a designer, illustrator or home user you'll learn how to develop ideas from sketches into more formalised visualizations and illustrative designs. This course is for you if you have some existing knowledge of the Adobe Illustrator software.
You’ll learn about creating mock-ups, using Illustrator as a layout tool and the development of complex graphics. Also we will explore the development of 3D models and the more complex aspects of design through combining images, type and objects.
Finally there will be the opportunity to learn about craft vector based assets for use in any design or illustration project from book design, logos and branding to graphics for advertising, packaging, and environments.
Adobe Photoshop may also be used to complement certain aspects of design with Adobe Illustrator.

Facilities for students:
You will be based at our City College Main Campus where we have extensive and excellent facilities for practical and theory work.
These include: state of the art Windows PC’s and Apple Macintosh’s with industry level software. Teaching and learning aids such as Smart Whiteboards, data projectors, personal City College email accounts, Virtual Learning Environment and personal online file storage space will compliment and aid student’s on the course.
Tutors:
Tutors assigned to this course will have experience in teaching a range of modelling software and many of them work in the digital media design industries.

Entry Requirements:
This is a complex software package and students wanting to take this course should be extremely comfortable with all aspects of using a Windows or Macintosh based computer and have some experience in design software.
Progression and links:
Students undertaking this course will be able to produce work that could contribute to an intermediate level graphics design course and may also help to contribute towards a portfolio of evidence at interview for other Further Education courses.
Students undertaking this course will be able to produce work at an intermediate level in graphic design and it may help to contribute towards a portfolio of evidence for interview for within industry.
