The course is aimed at people with no previous art and design training who wish to become familiar with the thought processes and practical skills needed to become a working artist.
The course aims to take the novice through each stage of the development of an idea through to completion. Students will work initially from life then explore how their primary research can be developed through the application of a variety of design strategies.
Students will explore how the use of contextual research can help the evolution of ideas into finished pieces. Students will explore how the use of a wide variety of creative craft skills can be used to manipulate images and develop initial ideas. Students will select their own outcomes, these can be either fine art or design based outcomes.
The course is organised around the traditional developmental states of an art and design idea.
