Course aims:
Using the dynamic possibilities of the figure this course will explore linear and tonal drawing.
Line can have many characteristics. It can be elegant, light, fast, slow and powerful depending on the media and approach.
Tone provides a drawing with a sense of depth, adding atmosphere and drama through contrast.
This course will introduce you to a variety of media and techniques in order to enable an exploration of light, form and linear drawing in all its variations.
Working from a variety of life models over the weeks will enable you to produce fresh and lively drawings from observation.
The course is suitable for beginners and non-beginners, it is taught in Art and Design studios by highly qualified and enthusiastic teaching staff.
By the end of the course you will have had a good introduction to the Visual Arts and it could help you in preparation for entry onto one of our higher-level Part-time or Full-time Art & Design courses.

Tutors within the Centre for the Visual Arts are highly qualified, enthusiastic & experienced. They provide a wide range of professional expertise and skills. Many are also practising Artists/Designers and well as Educators.
Assessment: Throughout the course students will receive verbal feedback about their work. At the end of the course a selection of artwork will be displayed within the department

Although suitable for those who wish to study art purely for interest and pleasure, this course can act as a stepping stone for students wishing to progress onto higher level Part time or Full time Further Education courses. Those offered at City College include: Intermediate Level Art and Design (PT); BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma (FT), BTEC Level 2 First Diploma (FT).
The majority of careers in Art and Design require a degree qualification. The wide range of Part- time and Full -time Art and Design courses, ranging from Level 1- Level 3 that are offered within the Centre for Visual Arts provides students with opportunities to progress from Further Education onto specialist art and design degree courses at Higher Education Institutions.
