Course aims:
Are you a current manager or have aspirations to move into management? This course offers an excellent foundation for formal development and provides a nationally recognised award in first line management.

Course content:
This course will allow you to achieve an Award and or a Certificate in First Line Management. Both courses are divided into units each with a credit value ranging from one to three.

The Award Minimum
For this you’ll need to pass a minimum of 5 credits including a mandatory unit Solving Problems and Making Decisions plus some other units
e.g.

The Certificate

For the certificate you’ll build on the credits Achieved in the award and achieve a minimum of 20 credits including three mandatory units.

Other units

You will learn in a number of different ways including group teaching, working with others in pairs or small groups, case study and project work, and presentations. This is an intensive course with a lot of work to be done in relatively few taught hours.

Facilities for students:
Library facilities contain associated books and course text books as well as computers if required

Assessment: The mandatory units on both the qualifications will be assessed by a management report.

Other units will be assessed by a range of methods e.g. reflective review, presentations, role-plays and short reports

Entry Requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements. You will be expected to have basic levels of literacy and numeracy. As the course is work based, you will be expected to access a workplace in order to complete all the assessments.

Interview for entry: Interview required

Pre-entry preparation:
You should ensure you have access to supervisory management experience for the duration of the course. Reading articles about management and business would be helpful.

Progression and links:
The Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management aims to give practicing and potential managers the foundation for formal development and provide a nationally recognised award in first line management.

Successful students may wish to progress to further qualifications such as the NVQ Level 4 Management award, or the Certificate/Diploma in Management qualifications.

With this well recognised qualification you would be able to enter or progress within leadership or management within a range of organisations.

Home/EU students tuition fees (per year): 2: £220 3: £620

The cost of these courses are split into 3 categories. Category 1: If you are aged between 19-23 years and are studying at the level of your chosen course for the first time. This applies to Level 1, 2 and 3 courses. If this is your first level 3 course, the upper age limit is 24. Category 2: If you are in receipt of a 'work- related' benefit such as Job Seekers Allowance, or that you can self-certify (sign a form) that you are actively seeking work. Category 3: if you do not sit within Categories 1 or 2, this will be the cost you will need to pay for your course.
