“Never had it so good” was the motto, but it was not quite that for all. It was, however, a new age after the horrors of war with an end to rationing.
Colour entered life, with modern-style furniture and fitted kitchens, washing machines, refrigerators and television for those who could afford it.
Young men had to do their National Service, Teddy boys roamed the streets and the ever-present bomb-site was a common sight, but, there was also the rhythm of rock ‘n’ roll, the elegant ‘New Look’ from Paris, with tiny waist and masses of skirt, pre-fabs, frozen peas and coffee bars for the ‘new’ teenagers.
An entertaining and nostalgic morning.
