Course aims:
On this fun, hands on pottery course you’ll learn the basic basic hand-building techniques of working with clay.
You’ll gain lots of experience by making your own finished pieces of pottery to take home. You'll build an understanding of the possibilities that clay offers as a material to work with and the process required to achieve a finished piece.
On the course you'll have plenty time and the opportunity to be creative using clay and its related decorating materials.

Course content:
You will be involved in hands on step by step practical project work to create finished fired pieces that explore different methods of working the clay. Sessions will cover a range of making and surface decorating techniques to build an understanding of how to plan, make and decorate clay work creatively and successfully.

Tutors within the Centre for the Visual Arts are highly qualified, enthusiastic & experienced. They provide a wide range of professional expertise and skills. Many are also practising Artists/Designers and well as Educators.
Assessment: No formal assessment is required for this course, however during the course students will receive ongoing feedback through group and 1-1 tutoring about their work.

Students completing Pottery Introduction Part One could progress onto Pottery Introduction Part Two. This course could be studied alongside other part time art and design courses and used as a method of developing a portfolio for applying to courses such as the Part time Foundation course.
