Supported Catering Courses
We offer a 1 year course in Food Preparation and Cooking (B0667) for people aged 16+, who have specified physical, emotional or learning needs and therefore need a little more support. The groups are small and there are no entry requirements.
You will be in college for about 16 hours a week where you will learn basic cooking skills as well as the theory of Catering to gain an NVQ Level 1, a Food Hygiene Certificate and complete the basic numeracy qualification.
You will work in the College’s well-equipped training kitchens and have the opportunity to work with our highly skilled and knowledgeable staff and hopefully make some new friends.
Once you have completed this course, you may want to progress onto the next level course - the VRQ Level 1 in Hospitality & Catering (B0660). We were the first supported group in the country to offer this course. It is also a 1 year course, about 16 hours a week, with the same dedicated support and small groups.
You will do some cooking and some literacy work but you will also learn about the Hospitality industry and gain a Food Hygiene Certificate.
Students from other Colleges and Schools can join this second year if they have a Catering qualification or experience in the Catering industry.
