We believe that the best way to learn is to do, so all learning is centred around practical projects and vocational scenarios: performers form bands and play at least ten gigs per year around Brighton; engineers do the sound for those gigs; producers record bands in our professional studios; students learn about various aspects of the music industry through their running of Brighton Records, which promotes and releases student productions. On these creative courses all students are encouraged to develop their compositional skills, writing and producing their own music.
Brighton is a great place to live and study, with a very lively music scene, diverse arts and cultural events and festivals, and is only 50 minutes from London on the train. We have excellent links with the local music industry and regularly host guest speakers (recently Norman Cook, Joe Boyd, Rizzle Kicks’ band). There are plentiful opportunities for work experience and volunteering for such events as The Great Escape.
Brighton Records has been established by City College to help students gain insight and experience in the music industry and nurtures and promotes emerging talent in music composition, recording, production and performance. Students take on one or more roles within the label to help promote their creative work via gigs, digital distribution and CD sales. Brighton Records releases are made available on all major digital distributors such as iTunes Amazon and Spotify.
