Course aims:
Studying Beauty Therapy at City College is fun, exciting and will leave you with the skills, confidence and most importantly, the experience, to progress into employment or further your skills through study.

This vocational course will extend your skills as a Beauty Therapist by introducing you to a larger range of specialist beauty treatments and by giving you the opportunity to develop you skills in the running a beauty business. This increased depth of knowledge will prepare you for work in salons, hotels, health and fitness spas, airlines, cruise liners and department stores in the UK or overseas.

Course content:
On this course there are 8 units that you will study, these will help you develop your treatment skills as well as your business ones.

Promoting additional goods & services
Contributing to the financial effectiveness of the business
Body Massage
Body Electrical
Facial Electricals
Epilation
Indian Head Massage
Massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils

Our Beauty department benefits from several fantastic facilities that will provide you with a real-world training experience and a top education. These include professional beauty and hairdressing salons that are open to the general public.

You will also have access to the libraries, computer rooms, refectory and all the other facilities and benefits at City College.

The Beauty and Holistic team is staffed by highly skilled and highly motivated tutors that are passionate about their subjects and have excellent links with employers.

You will need NVQ level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy or equivalent.

Progression and links:
You may wish to develop your skills and qualifications by moving onto one of the many courses available within the Beauty industry. These include: Holistic Therapies, Advanced Massage, Reflexology, Aromatherapy and Specialised Make-up

This qualification enables the therapist to work in industry as a therapist, a manager or clinic owner.

Many students also go onto working with large companies such as Neilson Holidays, Steiner Cruises and Harding Brothers Cruises

Work experience opportunities:
Work experience is desirable/ highly recommended.

Free Study and Financial Support

All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2012. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial help from the college's learner support funds. You should apply for financial support as soon as you receive your offer letter.
