Course aims:
The UK construction industry is constantly changing and developing the way it meets the challenges of creating the built environment and thats where it needs you!
This course will develop your basic skills and knowledge to start a career in the Construction industry as a carpenter/joiner.
You will learn about different aspects of site carpentry including: using hand tools, power tools, access equipment, building workplace relationships and Health and Safety requirements

This course also offers the opportunity for you to develop your English, maths and/or ICT skills, as appropriate. You will be expected to complete basic skills qualifications as part of your course.
Facilities for students:
Our specialist facilities at City College are excellent. We have life-size realistic training environments such as a scaffolding rig, workshops and large working areas. Our teaching team all have vast industry experience as well as many years of teaching, which has maintained our high standards, excellent pass rates and allowed us to produce graduates who have a high level of technical skill and confidence into the industry.
Assessment: Assessment is based on assignments completed through the year including core skills and an on line knowledge test.

Free Study and Financial Support
All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2012. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.
Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial help from the college's learner support funds. You should apply for financial support as soon as you receive your offer letter.
