Course aims:
Carpentry is a great trade to learn, once you’re trained and qualified the skills you’ve developed are very flexible and can be used in a range of career paths. It’s also a really satisfying job to do, you get to work with your hands, building and repairing new objects and structures.
This course will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge needed to gain a Level 3 qualification and become a carpenter. Also you’ll develop an understanding of the diversity and complexity within the Construction Industry. You’ll explore the roles and responsibilities of the people who work in the industry and your possible career routes. You’ll also look at built environment and the wider issues of sustainability and the impact the Construction Industry has on the environment.
By the end of this course you’ll have gained a Level 3 qualification and have the skills and confidence needed to apply for a wide range of jobs within the construction industry, including those at a supervisory level.
Course content:
The course comprises of general core units which relate to; Communication, Organisation, Developing Supervisory/Management Skills, Planning and Programming Work Activities, Workplace safety, Sustainability, Construction Industry Regulations, Safe working practices and the opportunity to achieve the Construction Skills Certificate Scheme.
On this course you will:
Occupational Specific units cover the range of Site Carpentry disciplines, including complex roofing.
Facilities for students:
The workshops are designed to provide the students with a learning environment which simulates the work place.
This enables students to experience working from platforms on complex roofing exercises, hang doors, etc there is also the opportunity to gain skills in bench joinery as part of the workshop programme. The workshops are fully equipped with up to date power tools and equipment.
Classrooms have smart boards and projectors enabling learner to take advantage of all the latest resources available relating to the Level 3 Diploma qualification and the Construction Industry.
Assessment: Work experience would be an advantage but is not a requirement as the course provides full training towards the level 3 Diploma Qualification in Site Carpentry.

Free Study and Financial Support
All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2012. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.
