Course aims:
This qualification is the 2nd year of a 2 year Level 3 Diploma which will give you the opportunity to gain the qualifications, skills and experience needed to progress a career in Dance.

The Street Jazz Dance course is an intensive, practical course that gives you access to leading practitioners in this exciting area of Dance. The practical emphasis of the course will give you the opportunity to develop your dance skills,creativity and physical fitness.

By the end of the 2nd year, you’ll have extended your knowledge of a wide range of modern, urban styles, be proficient in producing professional standard performances and have gained a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance).

Course content:
The majority of the course will be delivered through practical dance workshops with leading dance practitioners.

The emphasis of the 2nd year will be on extending existing knowledge in order to nurture the development of an individual style. This will be combined with further developing good technique to underpin all dancing. The second main focus will be on developing skills that allow the dancer to make a career in Dance.

There will be 2 major performances to showcase work developed by the students. As well as the major public performances there will be many opportunities to perform throughout the year.

Facilities for students:
A fully kitted out dance studio, great music and well connected dance teachers.

Assessment: All Units are assessed through practical assignments that lead to public performance. These assignments will also contain written coursework that underpins the practical.

Awarding Body: Edexcel

Entry Requirements:
Dance Subsidiary Diploma Level 3

Interview for entry: Interview required

Progression and links:
The Diploma is the equivalent of 2 A-levels and provides the UCAS points needed to progress onto University or Dance School.

The emphasis on practical Dance skills means that you have every opportunity to be fully prepared for Dance School and University auditions. You will be fully supported in making applications and the preparation of appropriate audition material.

Free Study and Financial Support

All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2012. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial help from the college's learner support funds. You should apply for financial support as soon as you receive your offer letter.
