Course aims:
This qualification is the 1st year of a 2 year Extended Diploma which will give you the opportunity to gain the qualifications, skills and experience needed to progress a career in the Film and TV industry.
A practical and intensive introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding required to work in the film, video and TV industries.
You値l gain extensive experience of using professional digital video cameras and editing software. Through realistic, industry related projects you値l learn how to create a range of digital film, video and animation from first ideas through to finished product.
Through a mixture of practical lessons and vocational projects you will have the opportunity to develop your creative filmmaking skills. You値l be taught using professional standard equipment including Sony Z1 cameras and Mac editing suites running Final Cut Pro. You値l also be encouraged to increase your academic skills in order to access a full range of progression opportunities.
You値l already have a keen interest in matters related to the industry and want to develop this through knowing how to target and package an idea to suit certain audiences.
Course content:
You will gain an understanding of the video, television and film industries through taught sessions, visiting speakers, and practical assignments.
The core units for the course cover research techniques and pre-production techniques, with specialist units about understanding the video, television and film industries.

Professional High Definition Digital Video camera kits.
Industry standard editing software running on iMac computers in our extensive editing suite.
Assessment: All assessment is through professionally relevant assignments. These are primarily practical units with supporting written work and documentation.

Entry Requirements:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or better or an equivalent level 2 qualification (eg BTEC or City & Guilds).

Progression and links:
Most students will progress on to Digital Filmmaking & Animation BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma. The Subsidiary Diploma is the equivalent of 1 A-level and you can use it to help you progress onto University.
Work experience opportunities:
As all assignments are modelled on professional practice, students will have the opportunity to develop a professional portfolio of work.

Free Study and Financial Support
All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2012. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.
