Course aims:
Forensic Science is one of the most exciting and rewarding areas of science, and has recently been made famous by TV programmes like CSI, Dexter and recently, BBC’s Sherlock.
On the Forensic Science course you'll learn the skills, knowledge and experience to begin your pursuit of a career within the forensic science industry.
This course aims to provide practical and theoretical experience in the field of Science by providing a range of topics which reflect employment within Science organisations or organisations that use Science.
During the 18 units of study, you’ll undertake a range of practical laboratory units, investigate current developments in human sciences, and gain an understanding of how science is applied to forensic situations.
Within the theory learning, you will also examine the fascinating areas of Criminology Psychology, applications of forensic psychology as well as forensic evidence collection and analysis.

Facilities for students:
Students will have access to laboratories (Chemistry and Biology) which are extremely well resourced, offering a range of facilities and equipment comparable to higher educational establishments.
The laboratories have been generously financed to offer an excellent scientific environment with access to specialist and up to date equipment.
Tutors:
Our Science team have many years’ experience of teaching at both level 3 and foundation degree levels.
Lecturers have maintained close links with the science industry, regularly updating their skills and knowledge through close relationships with science organisations and employers, and attendance at various conferences
Assessment: Assessment methods are varied and include written assignments, presentations, laboratory experiments and observation of general practical work.

Entry Requirements:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or better or an equivalent level 2 qualification (eg BTEC or City & Guilds).

Progression and links:
Students can continue their study further by embarking on a Higher Education degree course, or Foundation Degree in Science, Public and Emergency Service Management, as well as other related subject areas.
Successful students will have opportunities to seek employment in the Police force, other investigative agencies, fire investigators, Insurance Fire Accident Assessors and Private Investigators.
Work experience opportunities:
Opportunities to attend external visits to medical organisations, hospitals, Police departments, etc will be offered through out the year.

Free Study and Financial Support
All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2012. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.
Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial help from the college's learner support funds. You should apply for financial support as soon as you receive your offer letter.
