Course aims:
This course provides you with the high level knowledge and experience to begin a career in the Computing industry or to study at higher level at City College or University.

City College’s Computing department specialises in delivering applied Computing courses. We pride ourselves in keeping up to date and our courses provide a sound theoretical and applied perspective to modern computing and IT topics.

After completing this year you can progress onto the second year, where you could be awarded with the Advanced Extended Diploma.

Facilities for students:
The application of computing and IT is realised through practical exercises in our well-equipped workshops.

Tutors:
Our highly-experienced tutors use a variety of methods including short lectures, practical work, research, group work and presentations.

Assessment: Each module is internally assessed by a variety of methods including report writing, practical assignments and short tests. You will be assessed against criteria which explain the level of performance you are required to achieve.

Awarding Body: Edexcel

Entry Requirements:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or better or an equivalent level 2 qualification (eg BTEC or City & Guilds).

Interview for entry: Interview required

Progression and links:
The award of the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma will show prospective employers that you have good communication skills, understand the basics of contemporary IT and computer systems and have the practical skills necessary for immediate employment.

Should you choose to progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma at City College, you will be able to demonstrate to employers that you have good communication skills, understand in detail how contemporary IT and computer systems are used and have the practical skills necessary for immediate employment.

Free Study and Financial Support

All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2012. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial help from the college's learner support funds. You should apply for financial support as soon as you receive your offer letter.
