Course aims:
Have you always wanted to work in the motor vehicle industry? Would you like to learn invaluable skills that you can carry through life no matter what career you have?

City College is the leading provider of Motor Vehicle Studies and has been training young men and women since 1946, supporting students to achieve in their studies which are all industry led. The Motor Vehicle department is one of the most successful in the College.
Our Full-time courses are all Vocational VRQ courses and are certified and recognised by the Institute of the Motor Vehicle

This qualification is ideal for service technicians and is considered the final step towards becoming a qualified mechanic at a basic level. Most employers would then also expect 6 to 12 months minimum of experience within a commercial garage environment.

All our courses involve students studying both the theory and practical aspects of light vehicle maintenance including health and safety and other skills associated with working in a garage and this blend ensures a diverse range of learning opportunities for our students. No two days are the same!

This is the final point on the progression route from novice to a basic qualified mechanic, a journey which will present a host of employment opportunities from fast fit to Formula One.

Students will learn key skills and gain an in insight into light vehicle technology. Through our enrichment opportunities and tutorial program students will see a growth in their personal and social development.

Course content:
On this course you will study:

* Diagnosis and Rectification of: Engine and component faults
* Chassis system faults
* Auxiliary equipment electrical faults

Facilities for students:
students will study at our state of the art new flagship workshop facility at CCE.

Assessment: Assesments will consist of Practical Assessments, On Line Assessment, Written Assessments and the completion of a Portfolio

Awarding Body: Institute of the Motor Industry Awards

Entry Requirements:
Motor Vehicle Maintenance Level 2 Diploma or a minimum of 18 months Motor Vehicle industry experience.

Progression and links:
After successfully completing the Level 3 award you will have the skills and confidence to apply for one of the wide range of vehicle repair jobs in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.

Work experience opportunities:
Motor Vehicle is well known to the Motor Trade business community in the city. The college has been the cities biggest provider of trained mechanics since 1946.

Free Study and Financial Support

All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2012. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial help from the college's learner support funds. You should apply for financial support as soon as you receive your offer letter.
