Course aims:
Have you always wanted to work in the motor vehicle industry and become a motor mechanic? Would you like to learn invaluable skills that you can carry through life no matter what career you have?
City College is a leading provider of Motor Vehicle Studies and has been training young men and women since 1946, supporting students to achieve in their studies which are all industry led.
The Motor Vehicle department is one of the most successful in the College and has recently moved into fantastic new state of the art workshop.
Our Full-time courses are all Vocational VRQ courses and are certified and recognised by the Institute of the Motor Vehicle
This motor vehicle course is is a level 2 qualification and will teach you a full range of routine vehicle fitting procedures. It provides you with the essential knowledge and skills to become a vehicle fitter working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and fast fit businesses.

Course content:
On the course you'll study both the theory and practical aspects of some of the following:
You'll also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, agreeing customer vehicle needs and other skills associated with working in a garage.
Facilities for students:
Our students benefit from learning in a new state-of-the-art 11-car workshop, designed to meet the needs of the modern day service technician. The workshop offers MOT standard equipment such as a brake roller tester, rolling road dynamometer, tyre and engine bays, five ramps, modern IT facilities and an external valeting area.

Assessment: The assessment of this VRQ is made up of 2 components:
a. IMI Awards set Practical Tasks
b. IMI Awards set Online Testing

Entry Requirements:
Motor Vehicle Maintenance Level 1 Diploma or a minimum of 12 months Motor Vehicle industry experience.

Free Study and Financial Support
All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2012. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.
Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial help from the college's learner support funds. You should apply for financial support as soon as you receive your offer letter.
