Course aims:
Would you like to work in the Public Service sector? Would you like to learn the skills, discipline and knowledge required to equip you for a career in the Police, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Prison Service, Army, Royal Navy, RAF or Marines?
The Public Services department is exciting, active and vibrant and will provide you with all the support and guidance you need to get you qualified and employed or for you to succeed in your application to University.
You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

This is a practical work-related course for people considering a career in the Public
Services e.g. Police, Fire, Ambulance, Prison Service or Armed Forces.

Facilities for students:
There are a range of classroom and sports facilities including 2 x full sized astro-turf and grass football pitches, indoor sports hall, gym and hard court area.
Assessment: Assessment is through completion of a series of practical and coursework based assignment.

Entry Requirements:
Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grades E or better or an equivalent level 1 qualification (eg BTEC or City & Guilds).

You will need to keep up-to-date with any news concerning the Public Services and any voluntary work you do would prove useful.
Progression and links:
After successfully completing this course you may feel that the natural next step in your education and training will be to apply onto the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Public Services.
Work experience opportunities:
Students are expected to volunteer at various community events. There will also be Away days with Armed Forces + Look at Life courses

Free Study and Financial Support
All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2012. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.
Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial help from the college's learner support funds. You should apply for financial support as soon as you receive your offer letter.
