Course aims:
The Football Development Academy can only be studied alongside a full time core BTEC programme. The course is a unique programme that has been designed to combine high-quality coaching with the opportunity to gain qualifications in sport, coaching and key skills. This combined program is the ideal way to ensure that if your sporting dream isn’t realised, you will have the qualifications, skills and confidence to pursue a career in the sports industry.

Students will receive specialist coaching from an ex-professional footballer and UEFA Licensed Coach for a minimum of 6 hours each week and will play competitive matches in local and national league and cup competitions. We have extensive facilities for you including full-sized astro-turf pitches, full-sized grass pitches, indoor sports hall and gymnasium.

The primary motive of this academy is to encourage young people back into the professional or semi-professional game and we have extensive links with the local and national footballing community to encourage this.

Our students benefit from fantastic outdoor and indoor facilities including full-size, all weather and grass pitches, an indoor sports hall, dance studio and gym.

Tutors:
Our highly skilled and motivated staff have a wealth of knowledge and experience in sport and have excellent links with local employers such as with Brighton and Hove FC and Sussex County Cricket Club.

Luke Hampton – Programme Manager

Luke is Team Leader for Sport at City College and is a graduate of Sport and Exercise Science from Loughborough University. A former junior with Southampton Football Club, he now works part-time for the FA as a Coach Educator and is the Sports Masseur at Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club.

Charlie Oatway – Head Coach

With over 350 professional league appearances as a player, former Albion captain Charlie Oatway now works for Albion in the Community. With such a wealth of playing and coaching experience, together with his lively and dynamic personality, students will experience a unique and enjoyable programme.

Progression and links:
The primary motive of this academy is to encourage young people back into the professional or semi-professional game and we have extensive links with the local and national footballing community to encourage this.

There are also opportunities to gain paid and voluntary employment in football coaching.

You will be required to have a high level of footballing ability and a strong sense of desire and commitment. You will also need to be physically fit. Entry onto a particular level of the BTEC programme will be dependent on your existing qualifications.

Free Study and Financial Support

All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2012. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial help from the college's learner support funds. You should apply for financial support as soon as you receive your offer letter.
