Course aims:
The Rugby Development Academy can only be studied alongside a full time BTEC programme.

Brighton Blues RFC, in association with City College, is offering this unique Rugby Development Academy programme.

The aim of the academy is to provide high quality rugby coaching for talented young people alongside a sound and valuable education at City College.

Students will receive specialist rugby coaching from an experienced and qualified professional coaching team at Brighton Rugby Club, and will train three times per week and play competitive matches on a Wednesday afternoon in local and national league and cup competitions. You will benefit from professional coaching, excellent facilities (full-sized 3-G pitch, full-sized grass pitch, gym) and an atmosphere that will foster competitive and encouraging development of your game.

Alongside the game elements, you will study for a BTEC qualification in Sport, as well as several specialised coaching badges. This will not only help your game development but also give you the skills and confidence towards a career outside of playing.

Brighton Rugby Club facilities include;
1 x full-size 3-G pitch
2 x full-size grass rugby pitches

Based at City College East campus, we are now a major provider of sports courses in the South-East.
Our students benefit from fantastic outdoor and indoor facilities including full-size, all weather and grass pitches, an indoor sports hall, dance studio and gym.

Entry Requirements:
Entry requirements differ depending on the level of BTEC qualification you are studying:

Foundation:
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade G or better or an equivalent Entry level qualification (eg BTEC, City & Guilds, NOCN). You will need to demonstrate an interest in the subject area. You will be asked to complete an initial assessment to see if this is the right course for you. There will be an opportunity to discuss your requirements at an informal interview.

Intermediate:
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grades E or better or an equivalent level 1 qualification (eg BTEC or City & Guilds). It is desirable to have a level 1 qualification in English (eg GCSE Grade E or better) and in a subject related to your chosen area of study.

Advanced:
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C or better or an equivalent level 2 qualification (eg BTEC or City & Guilds). It is desirable to have a level 2 qualification in English (eg GCSE grade C or better) and in a subject related to your chosen area of study.

You will also be required to be playing Rugby to a high standard and will attend a trial.

Progression and links:
After successfully completing this course you may wish to further your coaching skills by progressing onto:

* 1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Rugby Union
* NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Sports Coaching

You may wish to further develop you academic training and after successfully completing a Level 3 qualification you can progress onto University.

The Academy aims to provide you with the quality training and coaching required to give you every chance of progressing into the amateur or professional ranks of Rugby.

Free Study and Financial Support

All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2012. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial help from the college's learner support funds. You should apply for financial support as soon as you receive your offer letter.
