Course aims:
Travel and Tourism is one of the most exciting and vibrant industries in the world. You could be helping someone find their dream holiday, travelling the world as a flight attendant, helping people party in sunny locations as a holiday rep, or progressing through the ranks as a top manager.
Studying with us is fun - we go on study trips around the world, from New York to London, and practice using cabin simulators and our real-world travel
bureau which sells holidays and flights to staff, students and the general public.
Our BTEC and vocational courses are practical in nature, so when you move into your career you will feel well prepared to meet the challenges.
Year 1 you study for the national award, and if successful you then progress on to year 2 to complete the National Certificate
This course is designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors within the Travel and Tourism industry.
The course is made up of 12 units of study, 6 core units (Year 1) and 6 specialist units. (Year 2) Additionally work related vocational programmes of study are included to broaden students knowledge and understanding of the Travel and Tourism industry.

You will gain real-world experience at our in-house travel bureau, City Travel, serving holidays and trips to staff, students and the general public.
Tutors:
We have enthusiastic and experienced teachers who will be able to pass on their experience of the industry and this department has fantastic links with some of the largest travel companies in the world, including TUI, Sevisair GlobeGround, Virgin Atlantic and EasyJet.
The travel dept is managed by Kevin Green an experienced cabin crew trainer and teacher; he worked in the travel industry for over 15 years as a holiday rep and cabin crew. All your lecturers have travel experience including cabin crew, resort reps and airport check-in. We have excellent links with major tour operators and award winning airlines.
Assessment: The course is assessed by internal and external bodies with formal progress tests and assignments taken throughout the course and continuous feedback on your progress.
Assessment will be a combination of exams, written work and role plays

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should have a minimum of 3 GCSEs grade D or equivalent (preferably Maths or English), a good level of personal presentation and communication skills. If English is your second language you will need to have ESOL Level 1 or equivalent.

Progression and links:
If successful you will progress on to the L3 National Certificate award or you can progress onto another vocational course at City College (including travel, hair and beauty)
We have former students working as travel reps in locations such as Bulgaria, Turkey and Spain or flying around the world with Easyjet, Aer Lingus and Thomas Cook amongst others. Students have also gone on to University or to work for travel agencies.

City College Brighton - Full-time course - Travel and Tourism BTEC National Award Level 3 (Sept 10)
Further information: You will be attending visits to various Travel & Tourism destinations and facilities. These visits are a crucial part of the course and as such are compulsory.
A European residential visit is planned.
