Course aims:
Do you want to study a university course with a professional focus? Then a foundation degree at City College may be the right choice for you.

Every year, thousands of students study HE qualifications in FE Colleges,

All our HE courses are validated by the University of Brighton, so students benefit from the facilities of the College and the University. A Foundation Degree is equivalent in level
to the first two years of an honours degree.
Students who successfully complete a Foundation Degree can often apply for a one year honours top-up degree.

This course addresses the major functions of businesses - marketing, finance, personnel and ICT and enhances subsequent professional and academic progression. The transferable skills obtained will enable you to adapt to changing circumstances including the changing sphere of employment, promotion and changing business practises, wherever they arise.

This Course combines the academic rigour of a degree with practical and vocational knowledge and training for real-world businesses. Whether you intend to work in management of an organisation, or run your own business, the Course will provide the core knowledge and analytical skills to understand the economic climate, adapt your business ideas, and manage a business through change and development.

Course content:
You will study eight core modules, eight specialist optional modules plus personal development planning and professional practice.

Facilities for students:
A range of services including libraries are available through the College and at the University of Brighton.

Tutors:
The course is delivered by an experienced team of service and business management academics and professionals.

Assessment: Students are assessed through a mix of methods including exams, group work, essays and presentations.

Entry Requirements:
The Foundation Degree is intended primarily for those who are in, or plan to enter, employment and who have reached the minimum age of eighteen. The normal admissions requirement is:

120 points from a minimum of one 12 unit or two 6 unit qualifications. Level 3 scores will count towards the tariff score. General studies will not count towards the tariff score.
A BTEC National Diploma/Certificate in Business (level 3)
A BTEC Advanced GNVQ
IB: 24 points; certificates considered.
QAA approved access courses: Acceptable with subject specific units
GCSE (Min grade C): At least 3 subjects including English language and mathematics or a science.

For applicants from overseas equivalent qualifications will be recognised. Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to meet the normal English language qualifications set by the College which are normally:

Non GCSE English Language Requirement: IELTS 6 (with 6 in writing), CAE Grade C, OR TOEFL: 233 (computer), 575 (paper) or a minimum of 90/120 (with a minimum of 22 in writing) Internet Test

Students with extensive work experience may substitute appropriate work experience against the entry criteria specified above.

In the case of mature candidates special consideration is given to appropriate work experience and other qualifications earned or training received.

Progression and links:
On completion of the degree, students can apply to a progression route at the University of Brighton.

The Foundation Degree course can be a valuable qualification in its own right for pursuing a range of careers in Business, or lead to a further one-year Honours Degree course in Business.
