Course aims:
If you are an entrepreneur interested in making your business work or looking to contribute to your company's success as an employee, then this course is for you.

This flexible business course can be taken at University Centre Hastings or at City College Brighton and Hove. It will meet your needs, be you a full-time student or combining part-time study with work or other commitments.

You'll get a nationally recognised qualification - a foundation degree - that will improve your CV when looking for that next job or promotion. It also gives you an opportunity to progress to a full degree.

This course also offers work placements, so you apply what you learn in the classroom to the real workplace as you develop on the course.

All lecturers have had significant experience in the business world and apply what they know to the course to make it relevant and up-to-date.

Course content:
Students study eight core modules, eight specialist or free choice options (not more than three from any specialist pathway) plus Personal Development Planning and Professional Practice. Transferable skills enable students to meet changing circumstances, whether they arise from a shift in their own sphere of employment, promotion to supervisory or management roles, or from general changes in business practices and the business environment.

The areas of study cover all the key aspects of business from understanding corporate culture and the business environment to starting a small business. With modules on marketing, accounting and law, you'll get the skills you need to make a difference to your business as an owner or employee. Options in internet business, human resources, management accounting and safety are also available, giving you a range of opportunities to explore.

Facilities for students:
A range of services including libraries are available through the College and at the University of Brighton.

Tutors:
The course is delivered by an experienced team of service and business management academics and professionals.

Assessment: Students are assessed through a mix of methods including exams, group work, essays and presentations.

Entry Requirements:
Individual offers may vary

UCAS tariff:
160 points, to include at least one 12-unit qualification. Level 3 Key Skills will count towards the tariff score. General Studies will count towards the tariff score.

International Baccalaureate:
24 points; certificate considered.

QAA-approved access course:
acceptable.

GCSE (minimum grade C):
at least 3 subjects including English language and mathematics or a science.

For non-native speakers of English:
IELTS 6.0 overall, 6.0 in writing.

Progression and links:
Recent graduates are now working in a range of industries from BMW to the local council. This course can prepare you for a range of opportunities in the business world. You may also be able to progress to a full business degree programme.

Work experience opportunities:
The course includes a period of work experience.

Tuition fees for 2012/13:
The tuition fee for this course will be £7,500 for 2012 entry. Most students will be eligible for a loan from Student Finance England to cover the cost of fees, so most students are not expected to pay this amount upfront.
