Course aims:
In this professionally-oriented course, core modules are studied from October to Easter to prepare students for their work experience. From Easter, all students undertake 20 weeks of work experience in the UK or abroad. Students have worked at Brighton visitor information centre, Universal Studios and Disney, Orlando, Florida, Brighton & Hove Council events team, Jury’s Inn, Brighton.

On their return in September, students choose from a range of options via which to specialise in various aspects of the industry.

On this course, delivered in the heart of Brighton, you'll learn how to apply management theory in practical placements and have collaborative working opportunities with other courses and events. The course also provides preparation for entry level management positions in the service sector.

There is an industry panel comprised of event and tourism providers in the local area who meet students on a regular basis, informing the development and currency of the course.

Facilities for students:
Use of local event venues in the Brighton area. Up-to-date hospitality facilities. Extensive library facilities.
Higher Education Student Social and Study space, with individual and group workstations, large display screens iPads and kitchen facilities

Tutors:
The course is staffed by a team of lecturers who have extensive teaching and contemporary vocational experience. They have excellent links with hospitality & event providers in Brighton, nationally and internationally.

Assessment: Assessment will be varied and provide opportunities for development of analytical and presentation skills via essays, presentations, role-plays and debates. Individual and group projects provide graduated developmental opportunities for independent study. In some subjects examinations will be used to assess the acquisition of knowledge and to ensure a full range of assessment methods are experienced by students to prepare them for further study.

Entry Requirements:
UCAS Tariff: 48 points from a minimum of one 12-unit qualification or international equivalent
Or International Baccalaureate: 24 Points
And GCSE (min grade C or 4/5) at least three subjects including:
English language
Mathematics or a science or equivalent level 2 qualifications
A proven ability in spoken and written English. IELTS 6 overall - an overall score of 6.0 is required for all the sub-skills elements, with a minimum score of 6.0 or above for the writing element and an equivalent overseas qualification.
Mature student entry is dependent on an individual's experience and qualifications.

Work experience opportunities:
20 weeks placement from Easter until September of first year of course

Tuition fees:
Most students will be eligible for a loan from Student Finance England to cover fee costs, so most students are not expected to pay tuition fees upfront. The fees for 2017/18 are £7750 for a Home/EU student and £9250 for an International student.
