Course aims:
The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is the original professional body for accounting support staff.
This accountancy course will help you develop your existing skills in financial accounting and management accounting and will provide you with the opportunity to gain a widely recognised accounting qualification. This will also enable you to meet your career objectives and to become a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (subject to meeting the AAT’s work experience requirements)
In addition to studying financial accounting and management accounting you’ll also have the opportunity to study a range of optional subjects including taxation and credit control procedures.

Students are encouraged to make full use of the college’s excellent Library and refectory facilities and to make use of the virtual learning environment which can be accessed on-line.
Tutors:
This Level 4 course is taught by a dedicated team of lecturers who are also professional accountants with substantial experience of successfully delivering AAT courses.
Assessment: The AAT units are assessed by a combination of formal exams, skills tests and project work some of which may be completed on computer.

Entry Requirements:
Students joining this course are required to have achieved level 3 (AAT Intermediate stage or Advanced Certificate stage) or be a part-qualified chartered accountant or have a degree in accountancy.

It is recommended that students re-acquaint themselves with the subject matter of their previous studies before starting the course.
Progression and links:
Successful students way wish to consider progression to one of the professional chartered accounting qualifications such as ACCA. Completion of the level 4 course generally gives exemptions from the first stage of these organisations’ examinations.
There is a high demand for competent accounting professionals within a wide range of business and non-profit making organisations at all levels, both full-time and part-time as well as opportunities to become self-employed providing accounting services. An AAT qualification gives an advantage when seeking a new position.

The cost of these courses are split into 3 categories. Category 1: If you are aged between 19-23 years and are studying at the level of your chosen course for the first time. This applies to Level 1, 2 and 3 courses. If this is your first level 3 course, the upper age limit is 24. Category 2: If you are in receipt of a 'work- related' benefit such as Job Seekers Allowance, or that you can self-certify (sign a form) that you are actively seeking work. Category 3: if you do not sit within Categories 1 or 2, this will be the cost you will need to pay for your course.

Further information: It is possible to complete this course by attending the day course for half a day over two years. It is also possible to accept students to start in January 2011 to complete in December 2011. If either option is of interest please contact the course team to discuss the options available.
