Course aims:
This hands on course will allow you to expand or specialise your hairdressing skills to include barbering. You’ll also develop important skills such as communication skills and teamwork.


This barbering course is ideally suited if you’re over 19 years old and are looking to develop your skills and further your career. At City College you’ll benefit from training in our professional salon that is open to the public and staffed by students. So as well as training you’ll also be gaining valuable experience through working professionally, which will stand you in excellent stead when you apply for jobs.


At the end of this qualification you’ll have gained skills, knowledge and experience in cutting hair using basic barbering techniques, cutting facial hair to shape, changing men’s hair colour, shampooing and hair conditioning and salon health and safety.
Successful completion of the course will allow you to progress onto the NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Barbering. Or as the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering is a job ready qualification, on completion of the course you could start to apply for Barbering positions in professional salons.

Tutors:
The Hair Department is managed by Rachel Turner, an experienced Hairstylist and former salon owner. The Hair department is staffed by experienced, creative and enthusiastic tutors who have excellent links with the Hairdressing industry and local employers in the area.

The course is approximately three quarters practical, and one quarter theory.

Entry Requirements:
A Level 2 in Hairdressing, or currently working in a Barbers

Interview for entry: Interview required

Pre-entry preparation:
S/NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing with Barbering Units - 3rd edition by Leah Palmer and Nicci Perkins

Progression and links:
You can progress onto the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Barbering course.

Or

If you wish to apply for jobs, then you can confidently look to operator roles within the industry, such as junior stylist within a salon, with further progression to senior stylist, Manager and Salon Owner.

Work experience opportunities:
Students are encouraged to take up part-time employment in local Barbering Salons, and will also have the opportunity to work in the College’s professional salon.
