Course aims:
This course is ideal for those who are already working in an environment where interpersonal skills are needed and who wish to consolidate their skills and knowledge.

It is also designed for those who might wish to consider a career in counselling, health and social care, child care or learning and development.

It will give you the opportunity to understand the skills needed to communicate effectively and to engage in a one-to-one helping relationship appropriately.

Course content:
This counselling course will:

Develop your helping skills in everyday life and work
Develop self awareness for the helping relationship
Improve your listening and communication skills for helping relationships
Assist you in managing the helping relationship

Facilities for students:
You will have full use of our Library facilities including book borrowing and computers.

Entry Requirements:
No previous training or experience is required although you should have an awareness of difference and diversity, be motivated towards developing as a helper and be able to benefit from self-development and possess emotional stability. You must be 18 years of age to study on this course.

Level 2 and 3 qualifications in Conflict Management
Level 2 and 3 qualifications in Health Care and/or Health and Social Care
Level 3 Certificates in Counselling Skills and Theory/Developing Counselling

Level 3 qualifications in Workplace Mentoring

The course will not teach you to be a counsellor but may help you to decide whether or not to continue training as one.
