Course aims:
Would you like to apply for senior hairdressing positions? Do you want to develop your skills and learn advanced hairdressing techniques?
This hairdressing course will extend your hairdressing skills and allow you to develop specialised techniques. You’ll be prepared for more senior supervisory roles in the industry, the course could also provide a route into teaching hairdressing if have enough previous salon experience.
Throughout the course you’ll develop and enhance your creative hairdressing skills, learning to style and dress hair to achieve a variety of creative looks, provide colour correction services, colour hair, and contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities.
Your lessons will be taught in a number of different ways including: demonstrations, theoretical delivery and completing a range of models.
The VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing is an industry recognised qualification that is valued by employers, and is also seen as a route onto Higher Education.

Students will be based at Pelham Tower Campus where we have excellent facilities for practical and theory work. These are:
Two well equipped and recently modernised Hair Salons and Reception facilities
Tutors:
The Hair Department is managed by Rachel Turner, an experienced Hairstylist and former salon owner. The Hair department is staffed by experienced, creative and enthusiastic tutors who have excellent links with the Hairdressing industry and local employers in the area.

Entry Requirements:
Candidates are required to work in the industry. They should be in a position of senior stylist, manager/manageress, salon trainer or salon owner.
A good standard of technical ability is required with good communication skills, standard of education, professional personal presentation.
Students should have a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing, which is also offered at City College Brighton and Hove.

Progression and links:
The NVQ Level 3 Diploma is a recognised qualification into the PTTLS Course (Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Learning Sector course) with possible progression onto the DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Life Long Learning sector).
You can also progress into operator roles within the industry, such as senior stylist, private educator and assessor, training academy employee, manager or salon owner.
Work experience opportunities:
Students are required to be in full-time employment in a Hair salon.

The cost of these courses are split into 3 categories. Category 1: If you are aged between 19-23 years and are studying at the level of your chosen course for the first time. This applies to Level 1, 2 and 3 courses. If this is your first level 3 course, the upper age limit is 24. Category 2: If you are in receipt of a 'work- related' benefit such as Job Seekers Allowance, or that you can self-certify (sign a form) that you are actively seeking work. Category 3: if you do not sit within Categories 1 or 2, this will be the cost you will need to pay for your course.
