Course aims:
Do you have an interest in making garments and have either attended Introductory Pattern Cutting or done some basic pattern cutting, this course is for you.
On the course you’ll be shown you how to draft a basic pattern. This pattern can be adapted to your own design which you’ll then make into a finished garment using the skills you’ve learnt on the course. There will be some input from tutors on the construction but the main emphasis will be pattern cutting as it will be expected that you are confident in garment construction. More advanced pattern cutting techniques will be taught.
All candidates must own a sewing machine, be competent in making garments, done basic pattern cutting previously or attended Introductory Pattern Cutting Course or similar.
Course content:
The course content will be as follows;
Week 1: Introduction to block patterns, taking measurements, drafting your own block pattern.
Week 2: Drafting block pattern/making toile (sample garment) of block pattern.
Week 3: Making toile and fitting toile
Week 4: Week 5: Fitting Toile/making adjustments to pattern and produce card block pattern.
Week 6: How to use research to create garment designs, pattern cutting techniques.
Week 7, 8 and 9: Pattern Cutting Techniques.
Week 10 and 11: Drafting own pattern
Week 12: Making toile
Week 13: Making toile and Fitting toile
Week 14 and 15: Making final garment in chosen fashion fabric.
