Course aims:
Do you have a basic level of sewing skill, an interest in making garments, are able to make-up a commercial pattern and want to now be able to draft your own garment pattern, then this course is for you.

The course will show you how to draft a basic pattern and how this pattern can be adapted to your own basic design. You will then get to turn this pattern into a finished garment. There will some input on garment construction but the main emphasis will be pattern cutting.

All candidates must own a sewing machine have made-up a commercial pattern and be able to sew to a basic level of skill. Attending Garment Construction Techniques course is recommended if you are not used to making clothes.

Course content:
The course content will be as follows;

Week 1: Introduction to block patterns, taking measurements, drafting your own block pattern.
Week 2: Drafting block pattern.
Week 3: Sewing Techniques, making up toile (sample) of block pattern
Week 4: Making toile and fitting toile
Week 5: Fitting Toile/making adjustments to pattern
Week 6: Making adjustments to pattern and producing card block pattern.
Week 7: How to use research to create garment designs, pattern cutting techniques.
Week 8 and 9: Pattern Cutting Techniques.
Week 10 and 11: Drafting own pattern
Week 12: Making toile
Week 13: Making toile and Fitting toile
Week 14 and 15: Making final garment in chosen fashion fabric.
