Course aims:
This course is for people who are currently teaching in post-16 government funded provision or who have 75 hours of such teaching confirmed for the coming academic year.
This is the nationally accepted qualification for teachers in post-compulsory education and is validated by the University of Brighton.
If you are interested in moving into teaching in this sector but have no teaching hours in place, then the Preparing to Teach course will be appropriate. This course develops teachers’ practical skills and theoretical knowledge.
Course content:
The programme is delivered through seven modules over two years that reflect the key areas identified within the new standards. These are:

Students on these courses are enrolled at University of Brighton and at City College Brighton and Hove and therefore have access to facilities that both institutions provide for learners e.g. libraries.
You will also benefit from the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) – which aims to support learning outside of face to face sessions.

Entry Requirements:
Progression to HE: successful applicants on the Cert Ed have the option of transferring to the part time BA (Hons) Professional Education Studies at the end of their course of study.
This is an in-service qualification, although if you found a placement in order to study on this course, the qualification and experience gained would clearly help with securing employment
