What is an Apprenticeship all about?

How does it work?

Apprenticeships focus on the whole working spectrum, not just individual skills. Apprentices learn through a combination of ’on and off the job’ education and training. On the job they work alongside your staff and the rest they learn from us.

How do I find the right Apprentice?

One of your staff could become an Apprentice at any age, or we are happy to find you an Apprentice and advise you on the best Apprenticeship to benefit you as well as the individual.

How long does an Apprenticeship take to complete?

Typically they will last at least a year and Apprentices work towards a National Vocational Qualification at Level 2, Key Skills and in most cases a technical certificate.

Advanced Apprenticeships will last up to two years (dependant on sector) and apprentices work towards a National Vocational Qualification at Level 3 Key Skills and a technical certificate.

What are the employer’s responsibilities?

Most Apprentices are employed full time. Employers pay the average salary for the job, subject to ability, age and experience, with all costs of the training paid by the government via the Learning and Skills Council.

You will be expected to support the training and work experience of your Apprentice by providing relevant work experience as part of the course.

You will be expected to ensure that the working environment meets legal and health and safety requirements.
