What is an Apprenticeship all about?

How does it work?

Apprenticeships focus on the whole working spectrum, not just individual skills. Apprentices learn through a combination of ’on and off the job’ education and training. On the job they work alongside your staff and the rest they learn from experienced and professional Assessors employed by City College Brighton & Hove.

How do I find the right Apprentice?

How long does an Apprenticeship take to complete?

Typically they will last at least a year and Apprentices work towards a QCF Qualification (Formally known as NVQ) at Level 2, Key Skills or Functional Skills and in most cases a Technical Certificate or Diploma.

Advanced Apprenticeships will last up to two years (dependant on sector) and apprentices work towards a QCF Qualification (Formally known as NVQ) at Level 3 Key Skills or Functional Skills and a Technical Certificate or Diploma.

What are the employer’s responsibilities?

Most Apprentices are employed full time. Employers pay the average salary for the job, subject to ability, age and experience, with all costs of the training paid by the government via the Skills Funding Agency.

You will be expected to support the training and work experience of your Apprentice by providing relevant work experience as part of the programme.

You will be expected to ensure that the working environment meets legal and health and safety requirements.
