Be prepared to explain what you do in a couple of sentences
Before attending an event think about what you want to get out of it
Be brave – speak to one or two new people at each event. You will always recognise people at events but try not to speak to the same people every time
The easiest way to start up a conversation is introduce yourself and ask what they do
Remember to follow up your contacts as soon as possible. You may want to drop an email or follow up on Twitter or Linked in
Find out what other network events people attend – different groups work for different people
You need a clear strategy – ask your clients where they network
Become a connector – make connections between people in your network – build a reputation as a great person to know
