Student Stories - Elena Saccon

Student Success Stories - City College International

Elena Saccon, Italy - English Language Summer School

Elena was part of a short project course from Italy. She visited with other members of her high school and studied General English and English Communication. The students all stayed with UK homestay families around the city.

“The course was great! Every day at the college was useful, interesting and helped me to improve my cultural knowledge and English skills. My favourite lesson was English Communication in the afternoon: I think the teacher was brilliant, both able to spur you to do your best and to make you laugh! The rest of the staff was very polite and willing to help, too!”

“I really liked the college itself, with its facilities and various activities to do. I was so happy when I found out about the refectory (canteen): in Italy we don't have them because we don't go to school in the afternoon, so this new thing surprised me and made me feel as part of a family, as every day I had lunch with my friends and the foreign students I met at the college.”

“I think Brighton is an amazing city to live in: it's very vibrant and lively, full of British culture, music and tradition. Also, it's located in a great position, so that you can get to London in a little time by train or visit the stunning white cliffs of the southern coast of England”.

“To me, the best thing in town was the pebble beach: being Italian, I'm used to sandy beaches so it was very different for me to walk over the rocky foreshore of Brighton. Also, I really liked hanging out with my friends at night, passing local pubs and bars full of people having fun!”

“My host family was amazing. The room I shared with my friend was spacious and comfortable and the dishes that the host mum prepared us were always delicious. The family gave me a very warm welcome and I'm grateful to them for letting me into their lives with such kindness and hospitality. During my stay, I never felt homesick because I felt like I had found a second home. I'm still in touch with them: in fact, they promised me that next summer they'll come to visit me in Italy.”

“Now that I'm back home, I realized how much I've grown, not just in my language and cultural skills and knowledge, but also personally: I'm really thankful to everybody involved in this amazing journey!!!”
