SESSIONAL NVQ ASSESSOR – HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE
£14.80 per hour

We are seeking to appoint a Sessional NVQ Assessor for Health and Social Care to recruit and assess learners for our Apprenticeship programme. The role involves delivery of the Framework which includes the NVQ, Technical Certificate, Employer Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills in Literacy and Numeracy. This is a field based role visiting learners at various employer sites.
The successful candidate will have five years recent experience gained within health and social care. You must have a passion for high standards, combined with excellent communication skills and good time management, as effective planning of your workload is an essential part of your learner’s success. You must be comfortable working alone and also as part of a team.
Details of the person specification and the accountabilities of the post are given below.
• Relevant Assessor qualifications such as D32, 33, A1 Award and TAQA
• Relevant professional/occupational qualification equivalent to a Full Level 3
• Minimum Level 2 qualifications in literacy and numeracy
• Willingness and ability to gain necessary teacher / trainer qualifications
• Significant professional and technical expertise and knowledge within the subject field.
• Ability to demonstrate the required level of experience, knowledge and understanding of the NVQ and Units to be assessed.

The post-holder will report to the City Business Skills Lead Internal Verifier on a day to day basis and the post holder will be accountable for:
a) Delivery of Apprenticeship Frameworks and NVQ’s to learners based in the work place.
b) Success rates for health and social care work based learners.
c) To maintain a case load of learner’s
d) Complying with College wide policies and procedures
Below is a suggested list of duties that these accountabilities cover. This list is not exhaustive and may vary from time to time in order that the accountabilities may be met. Such changes are a common occurrence and cannot of themselves justify a re-grading of the post.
1. Support the recruitment of workplace learners including initial advice and guidance, skills scans, basic skills testing, completion of contractual paperwork and Health and Safety vets.
2. To undertake assessment and training of apprentices in the workplace.
3. To deliver under-pinning knowledge, in the workplace or through training workshops.
4. To maintain a caseload of learners. Case load will be agreed by line-manager and will vary according to balance of NVQ/Apprentices.
5. Identification of current competence of individuals and undertaking all necessary work to agree assessment plan and assist learners with preparation and evidence for assessments.
6. Preparation of assessment and training materials for scheduled assessments.
7. Regularly visit learners to monitor and review progress to ensure timely success.
8. Complete all recruitment, assessment/verification and accreditation paperwork within a set timescale.

2. Carry out regular reporting to the City Business Skills Lead Internal Verifier about recruitment, progress of learners and achievements.
1. Organise regular review meetings with learners and employers in the workplace.
2. Administer paperwork and keep accurate records.
3. Provide regular reports to include learner participation, starts, success rates and potential new starts.
4. Proactive quality improvement in your areas of responsibility.
5. Training and development directly relevant to your professional role.
6. Active participation in EV visits and Ofsted inspections including any administration tasks.

Exclusivity of Service
Employees must not, without the written consent of the Principal, undertake any employment or engagement which might interfere with the performance of duties at the College or conflict with the interests of the Corporation.
Salary
The salary will be the hourly rate of £….. per hour for each hour worked and will be reviewed annually in accordance with Corporation policy. The hourly rate is derived from the full time pay scales and is pro-rata using a transparent pay formula.
Working Hours
The standard working hours at the College are 37 per week. The days upon, and the times at which you are required to work will be in accordance for your Schedule of Engagement for the relevant term. Such schedules will be determined at the absolute discretion of the College. The College normal working week includes Saturday working and it may be necessary to work on a Saturday or in the evenings.
Annual Leave
Under the Working Times Regulations, you are entitled to receive paid holiday. In order to comply with these regulations, your hourly rate of pay includes a proportionate element in respect of annual leave. The formula for calculating your hourly pay rate takes into account the pro-rata holiday entitlement to that of a full time member of staff.
Your holidays should be taken out of term time and will have been paid for in advance.
Pension Arrangements
All employees automatically become members of the Local Government Pension Scheme unless they decide to opt out. Your contribution rate depends on how much you are paid.

The pay band ranges will be increased each year in line with the cost of living. City College Brighton and Hove will make a further contribution of 18.5% of the pensionable pay.
Health Clearance
All potential new staff are required to complete a Health Questionnaire and may be asked to attend a medical check.
Probation
All new staff to the College will be subject to a probationary period. The probationary period for this post is 6 months. Appointment to the College will only be confirmed after the satisfactory completion of the probationary period.

English, Maths and ICT
