Acting students present magical Rushdie play at City College

9 May 2011

Graduating Acting students from City College Brighton and Hove are staging an exciting physical theatre production of Salman Rushdie's 'Haroun and the Sea of Stories' at the College's Main Hall on Pelham Street on the 11th and 12th May as part of this year's Brighton Fringe Festival. Set in an exotic eastern landscape peopled by magicians and fantastic talking animals, the play tells the tale of Haroun as he sets out on an adventure to restore the poisoned source of the sea of stories. Performing Arts Team Leader Andrew Hoggarth says:

'As well as being a really magical tale which has inspired the students to excel themselves from an acting point of view, the beauty of this play is that it appeals both to children, who enjoy the adventure story aspect to it, and also to adults, who will be stimulated by the serious points it makes about political tyranny and the suppression of free speech. I think it's also a great showcase for what the College can offer to budding actors at a time when we're still recruiting for Acting courses starting in September.'
