City College Brighton and Hove is gaining a competitive edge amongst Brighton's aspiring music stars by offering Apple certification in software used by creative professionals. City College is the first College on the South Coast to become an Apple Authorised Training Centre for Education (AATCe). The College's Music Technology department will be offering students the chance to show future employers they have top-level skills in Logic Pro software. The department already has a track record of innovation, having set up its own record label, 'Brighton Records', managed and run by the students.
John Cunningham, City College's Subject Area Manager in Music Technology says:

Music Technology at City College
'These days, students applying for music courses are increasingly aware of the need to be qualified in industry-standard software to help them get the skills they need to get on in the industry. Having this accreditation is a real boost for the department and will help us attract the kind of creative, motivated students that we're always keen to have at the College.'
There are over a thousand bands, and some leading music labels, agencies and managers in Brighton - at least 500 music sector businesses. Brighton also hosts, in partnership with Brighton Music Network, two important music industry events: Brighton Live, an annual showcase for unsigned bands, and The Great Escape, an annual international festival and showcase for 'export-ready' bands. This activity has a huge impact on the local economy and Brighton Music Network, the official Music Support Agency for the South East, is in the process of commissioning an impact study report with Brighton & Hove City Council to gather statistics on how much the music industry contributes.
Lisa Holloway from the Brighton Music Network says:
"Brighton Music Network are delighted that City College's Music Technology department have won this accolade. Apple's accreditation doesn't come easily, so this is real recognition of City College's professionalism. It's hugely important that there is a training infrastructure to support and service the wealth of talent that this region has to offer. Well done to City College for helping to blaze the trail.'
