Students from City College Brighton and Hove who are spending their summer working on school building projects in deprived areas of Kenya and Gambia have been given a helping hand by local taxi firm Brighton & Hove City Cabs that is donating £2,000 towards both trips plus transport to and from Heathrow Airport.
The first trip is to Nakura in Kenya where an 18-strong team from City College comprising of Catering, Carpentry, Photography, Engineering and Media students is flying out to visit Prisons Primary School and replace charcoal burners in a rundown shack with a fully functioning kitchen for school children.

Later in the summer, another group of students will return to Kafuta Primary School in Brikama, Gambia, where they will rebuild and restock the library that is in desperate need of renovation. It will be the second year City College students have been involved in the 'Give to Gambia' project run by the construction department in conjunction with Sussex Central YMCA.
College Principal Phil Frier said: 'The students have been really enthusiastic about being able to take part in these projects. Their creativity and energy is a testament to both themselves and City College. I'd like to thank City Cabs for their generous help in making sure both projects get off the ground.'
David Quant, of City Cabs, said: 'We're delighted to be able to help these young people achieve their goals. It will be an amazing experience for them and we're just pleased that we can play a small part in making it all happen.'
