With sledges sold out in shops across Sussex, enterprising Carpentry tutors at City College Brighton and Hove are taking advantage of the demand by making traditional wooden sledges with their students in the College's carpentry workshop. The money raised by the sale of the sledges will help fund a project to provide homes and basic infrastructure for people whose children currently live in the slum areas of Nakuru, Kenya. In July 2010, students and staff from City College will be flying to Kenya to be part of this project and will assist with building homes, extending a school building and possibly building an orphanage.
Sledges are being sold for £25 (large) and £12 (small). Anyone who is interested should call the Carpentry Department on 01273 667788 x 548
