City College's Information Technology Department has donated 60 monitors, 40 PCs and various components to Computer Aid International. The charity was founded in 1998 in response to the enormous demand for quality and affordable access to computers from the developing world. Their work in the UK is to talk to businesses as they upgrade to the very latest technology and encourage them to donate their PCs to Computer Aid for re-use in schools and community organisations in the developing world.
Tony Roberts, Chief Executive at Computer Aid International says:

City College donates computer equipment to Computer Aid International
'Our achievement to date is due to the generosity of private and public sector, corporate, and educational IT users in the UK like City College Brighton and Hove. Our PC donors have the satisfaction of knowing that their PCs are making a real difference, helping to bridge the digital divide in the world's poorest countries. Bearing in mind the importance of ICTs in education, City College students and teachers will have the satisfaction of knowing that their old IT equipment could be passed on to universities where most of the students will have never seen or touched a PC before. In a world where technology is more a necessity than a luxury, passing on your old working PCs can make a significant difference to the development of these countries."
City College's Mark Howlin says:
'It's mutually beneficial because it allows us to clear out our old computers and it also helps an excellent cause. Otherwise this gear would be going to landfill sites in the UK which seems an awful waste of working equipment."
Computer Aid International has already shipped over 50,000 PCs to more than 90 developing countries. Of those 50,000 shipped over 35,000 have gone to educational institutions and the remaining to community organisations working in fields as diverse as HIV/Aids, environment, human rights, and primary healthcare.
