Following a competition called 'The Production House Project', judged by leading Brighton multimedia companies Liquid Light and Worth Media, a team of City College Brighton and Hove students have designed an eye-catching website for Art Reaching Communities (ARC).
ARC is a new voluntary organisation dedicated to using art and creativity to build confidence and encourage self expression in deprived children in developing countries. This August, ARC is going to Kenya to work in an orphanage. Through this new competition and collaboration with two multimedia companies, the College has helped to produce a site that will greatly enhance ARC's public image and appeal to funders.

Mark Greco, Manager of City College's Centre of Vocational Excellence in Digital Design says:
'We initially developed this initiative to offer multimedia students a 'reality check' of what it is like to work within the interactive media industry. It's fantastic that all their hard work has gone towards promoting such an excellent cause as ARC.'
Multimedia student Elliott Bennett, a member of the winning design team, Monstruo, says:
'This project was really inspiring and helped me to understand what it's like to work in the multimedia industry. It also helped me focus on understanding target audiences and working closely to a client's brief.'
ARC workshops are run by professional practitioners and provide a rare opportunity for deprived children to experiment and play with visual art. By exchanging artwork between schools and youth organisations internationally, they hope to increase inter-cultural awareness and global understanding. ARC founder/director Sarah Greaves, who also wrote the brief for the website and helped judge the competition, says:
'I am absolutely delighted with the outcome of this project. The winning team created a professional site that captures the essence of Arc and I am thrilled that we have a website of our own. The site will put ARC on another level ? one that will be more impressive to funders, sponsors and future orphanages and centres.'
Jasper McIntosh, Managing Director of Worth Media says:
'I was really pleased with how students responded to the brief. The teams made a real effort to understand ARC's position and requirements, and this showed in the quality of the final designs.'
Rob Day, Creative Director of Liquid Light says:
"The students have truly delivered beyond our expectations. They were clearly inspired by the project and each team delivered a thoroughly professional, well thought out solution. 'The Production House Project' has been a thoroughly rewarding and fascinating exercise, which I hope can continue and develop for future students."
The ARC website will go live on 30th June and there is a fundraising event for ARC at the Ocean Rooms in Brighton on the 20th July featuring Cassette Boy, DJ Rubbish and Barry Evans from Barry's Bootlegs.
