City College awarded Prince's Trust licence

6 December 2010

City College Brighton and Hove, the largest provider of vocational education and training in the city, has been granted a Prince's Trust Licence which means that it is now a delivery partner for the high-profile youth charity which helps young people to overcome barriers and get their lives back on track. In January 2011, the College will be delivering the Trust's Team Programme, a 35 hour-a-week programme running for 12 weeks which focuses on developing self confidence, team building and employability skills.

"City College is delighted to be working with the Prince's Trust to improve opportunities for disadvantaged teenagers throughout Sussex. The Trust has a terrific reputation for giving young people the life skills they need to improve their life chances and employment. This fits with the College's mission very well and by working together we can use our combined resources more effectively."

Karl Anscombe, Prince's Trust Programme Executive, adds:

'We're really excited for the future of The Prince's Trust Team Programme working in partnership with City College. There's a very high demand for the programme in Sussex and this course will support many disadvantaged young people into work, education and training. City College have made an outstanding contribution to the learners of Sussex in the past and we are looking for to a very long and successful partnership with them.'

The Prince's Trust gives practical and financial support, developing key workplace skills such as confidence and motivation. It works with 14 to 30-year-olds who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law. The charity has helped more than 600,000 young people since 1976 and supports 100 more each working day. Last year, 81 per cent of young people supported by The Trust moved into work, education, training or volunteering. Further information about The Prince's Trust is available at www.princes-trust.org.uk or on 0800 842 842.

City College will be recruiting thirty young people aged 16 to 24 to participate in two local Prince's Trust team programmes in January. For more information or to apply, please email princestrust@ccb.ac.uk or telephone Carina Carr on 01273 667788 ext 401
