City College Brighton and Hove has been building training links with Saudi Aramco, the state-owned national oil company of Saudi Arabia. It is the largest oil corporation in the world with the largest proven crude oil reserves and production. A group of six Saudi Aramco employees recently took part in a four month Instructor training course which provided them with a City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
The course involved students being equipped with the necessary teaching and training skills to contextualise the delivery of vocational education within their own specialist area. Students were assigned members of staff to shadow and they were then required to complete a portfolio of tasks and deliver lessons to City College students.

Saad Al-Qahtani, who teaches gas and oil operation engineering for Saudi Aramco, says:
'The teaching style is exciting here and the staff are lovely people and very supportive. We found Brighton a very friendly place and our time here seemed to go very quickly. It was a good experience to benefit from the expertise at City College and I'll do my best to use this new knowledge when I'm teaching back in Saudi Arabia.'
City College Principal Phil Frier says:
'At City College, we have over 600 international students throughout the year studying vocational and English courses and the project with Saudi Aramco is one of our key projects. The students are great ambassadors for their country and from visits to Saudi Arabia, our staff know that the Company has a long term commitment to working with City College. We welcome the strong relationship that we are building with them to secure a trained technical workforce for the future.'
